I need your help!

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1)

"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped." (Psalm 28:7)

A friend from church said that we shouldn't rely our happiness solely on external factors like work or people around you, but on God. Only those who believe in Him feel the joy and peace with God. Two people living in the same environment may have different feelings and ideas; one may be happy while the other may feel uncomfortable or disgusted. Not to mention that nothing is definite in the world nowadays. So when we are content with ourselves (and that only occurs when we have God in us), no matter how difficult or uncertain situations have become, we are still happy from the inside.

BUT!!!! An opportunity of working at another pharmacy arises. I am considering it partly because I am not very happy with my current working environment. But if I consider what my friend said about happiness, I should really stay and focus on my own "happiness".

Now, what should I do?

I tend to agree that we shouldn't rely SOLELY on outside influences; we should be striving to develop faith and inner strength. I also tend to think that friends etc. are perhaps sometimes actually a tool for God "speaking" into our lives. If the advice of trusted friends (who are motivated by love for you and concern for your well-being), combined with your gut instincts about a situation, leads you to search for alternative employment, then maybe it could be the "right" move for you?
While I think that God gives us challenges in life, I also don't think he wants us to struggle on in those challenges when another, better opportunity presents itself. I am reminded of the clichéd story of the man who is sitting on the roof of his house in a flood, praying to God. He refuses the external, "earthly" help offered to him (by people in boats and helicopters and the like) and carries on praying. When he berates God for not helping him in his time of need, God points out that he did help him; he sent a boat and a helicopter etc.
Many doors open, and many doors close, and I don't think it is as black and white as them being "right" and "wrong" doors or decisions. I would say that if you trust God, you trust him to be with you after the decision has been made, even if it was the "wrong" one.
Thinking of you as you tough it out ...

Thanks Trish. Somehow a decision is made and I am happy with it. Been thinking of you lately too. Getting ready for your trip to Mongolia?

A father will surely give what is best for their children. However, a father also gives you a chance to choose your own path. Your decisions in life, are also a gift from Him. No matter what comes ahead, trust that it's the best that He has planned for you.
